This is also available in 25kg Sacks.
Specialty Smoked Malt for providing the essential peat flavour in whisky production. Optional for Scottish and Strong Scotch Ales when stronger peat/smoked note is desired. While the malt is in the kiln, peat moss outside the kiln is gently smoked.
If you like peated whiskeys or beers with a Scottish twist, then you’ll really like the Mild Peated Malt from Gladfield.
This malt derived from the classic Gladfield Pilsner malt, it is made the same way up until the point of drying. At this point it is then introduced to slowly kilned/burning of Southland Peat. This enriches the malt with light smokey aromas and flavours often liked to soft earthy flavours with unique phenol characteristics between 3-5ppm. So it’s not overpowering like heavily peated malts that are on the market today.
Widely used in distilling circles for those who make single malt all grain washes, not flavoured vodkas.
A 5% addition will give you enough flavor to not overpower other parts greatly depending on the style. But a post 15% you will definitely get peated out the wazzoo.
Please note single malt does not mean using one literal malt for making whisky. A single malt means that it is made from one maker and not blended from other makers.
EBC: 3.2 - 4.0
Speciality Malt
Diastatic Power: 70° Lintner
