Spalter Select is commonly known as just "Select". It was bred at Hull Hop Research Centre and is a cross of Spalt and Hallertau Mittelfruh resulting in the development of a variety with a fine aroma and high farnasene content which are typical of Spalt-type hops.Ā
Spalter Select retains some of the finer characteristics of its parentage varieties and is considered a slightly spicier version of Spalt resulting in brewery giant Anheuser-Busch replacing both Tettnang and Spalt in their range.Ā It is ideal for Lagers, Pilsners, and other German-Style beers.
Spalter Select is typically only used as a late boil, whirlpool or dry hop addition.
